Dive With The Sharks

Just inches from me a nine foot sand tiger shark passes. I stop and give him the right away. Two five foot shark rays buzz around me in hopes that I may have a lobster tucked away somewhere. As I look up a six foot green moray ell glides by. The next morning I watch in awe as a 1800 pound manatee does barrel rolls just a breath away from me.

What plane ride and lay over’s have I endured to dive with these wonderful creatures? To be there among them have I been slammed about on a boat, heaving my guts out in a confused sea? To see them have I dug deep into my pocket, putting my financial security at risk. No, I have just gotten in my car and drove 30 minutes or less. You see I am a volunteer at the Newport Aquarium and the Cincinnati Zoo and I love it.

How often have I heard many of you say that you would love to dive more? Well here is your chance, call Cincinnati Diving Center at 513-521-3483 to dive with the manatees at the Zoo, and Scuba Unlimited 513 793-4747 to dive at the Aquarium. Both CDC and Scuba Unlimited have done a wonderful job with their diver programs, and Jamie Vogal at the Zoo and Jen Wolfe and Ed Evens at the Aquarium are wonderful to work with.

Oh yes, you will have to work. You will spend hours scrubbing algae, cutting up squid and fish, and pumping up manatee poop and of course we do windows.

The Stela Passageway

Frederick, MD December 7, 2007 -- PublishAmerica is proud to present The Stela Passageway by Carol Kender of Powell, Ohio.  "For Darla Moore and her dive buddies Claude Johnson and Carlos Morales, it was just another cave dive. Then, their team discovered the Stela Passageway and a document that would change the way the world viewed the Mayans and the Spanish Church’s involvement in the Mexican Yucatan.

After they enlist the help of Mayan experts Franco De Paz and Andrea Whitehead, their search for the truth takes as many turns as the caverns they end up exploring. Deciphering the journal from 1518 proves to be both a challenge and a mystery. Their quest is further complicated by Carlos’ father, who does not believe the journal should ever be made public because of its volatile content. There is also the question of proving that the journal is authentic. When the team tries to recover more evidence from the cave to prove their claims, things turn deadly…"

Carol is the former owner of ASK Scuba & Snorkeling Center.   This retail dive center was originally located in downtown Columbus at 80 West Long Street and moved to the Dublin area 17 years ago.   She sold the business in January of 2006  to  Aquatic Adventures Ohio.  She has been enjoying writing and traveling since then. She has her own website www.thescubalady.com where she has published several of her dive stories and travel tips.

The Stela Passageway will be available to book sellers in February, but a copy can be ordered on line now through the publishers website at www,PublishAmerica.com. or from Amazon.com
